The Council of Economic Advisers released a report, Missed Opportunities: The Consequences of State Decisions Not to Expand Medicaid, which details the effects of state decisions regarding Medicaid expansion on access to care, financial security, overall health and well-being of residents, and state economies. The analysis shows the effects in these areas if all states had expanded Medicaid. It also includes the state breakdowns for these important numbers:

  • 651,000 people would get the care they feel they need for the year
  • 829,000 more would have received cholesterol screenings
  • 214,000 more women would have received mammograms
  • 345,000 more women would have received pap smears
  • 255,000 fewer people would face catastrophic out of pocket expenses
  • 810,000 fewer people would have trouble paying other bills due to their high medical bills
